Gather the family and join the fun in Historic Oldtown Peoria at the Peoria Pioneer Days Parade and Family Picnic on Saturday April 10, 2011!
Various activities and events are held around Peoria to commemorate Peoria's small-town heritage. Peoria’s Pioneer Days 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk takes place at the Peoria Community Center on Saturday morning, April 10, 2010. This is the 2nd running of this annual 5K running race & 1 mile walk. The race was created to encourage the community to participate in a celebration of our city’s history. The Family Fun Bike Ride participants lead the parade through Old Town. The parade features more than 40 entrants. A free picnic lunch follows the parade at the Peoria Historical Society Museum grounds. At night, families can head to the Peoria Sports Complex for a free screening of DreamWorks' animated film "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron."
The theme of this year's Pioneer Days is "Celebrating Peoria’s Past and Preserving its Future", honoring Peoria's heritage while demonstrating a commitment to future generations by promoting sustainable practices throughout the community . This event will showcase a "Green Zone" that is entirely focused on educating citizens in the area of energy conservation and other environmentally conscious practices. Local companies have been invited to showcase their green products and services. Peoria employees will highlight the various successful initiatives that the city has implemented as well as provide citizens with various tools and resources to be more sustainable in their own lives.
