The market runs 4 to 7 p.m. on the last Friday of the month at Hellen and John M. Jacobs Independence Plaza, 16752 N. Greasewood St., Surprise. Admission is free.
A vendor will be added each month, bringing the count for the market on Friday to seven, organizers say.
The goal is to draw the community together, bringing neighbors together in a social event. The market is allowing local vendors to come and share their goods with their neighbors and offer healthy opportunities to buy fresh vegetables and products.
Although many of the programs at the non-profit Benevilla center cater to senior citizens, organizers want the farmers market to appeal to both young and older residents of the Surprise and the Sun Cities area. The famers market is affiliated with the Community For All Ages project in Surprise.
Live entertainment also will be staged from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Birt's Bistro & Bookstore, also on the Benevilla plaza, during the farmers market. Country-rock band Cactus Country will perform on Friday.
